  1. Hello! I like your blog, and thought it would be cool to share the ways I take care of myself =)

First some back-story. I come from an abusive and highly dysfunctional home. Later I fell into drug addiction. Finally, I realized what was wrong – and started my healing journey. So, after many years sober, and estranged from my family system, I’ve learned what’s good for me, and what’s not.

To practice proper self-care, there are certain aspects that needs to be in place. First and foremost a foundation based on regular exercise (that fits my needs), a consistent sleep schedule, and healthy and nourishing foods in my diet. Second, and maybe just as important – controlling the Input! It’s important for me to do proper psychological care with what I allow into my conscious and therefore also my subconscious. Tv-shows, following on social media, how much news and from what sources, are important. Same goes with the people and influences I allow into my life. I think we tend to forget how important this step is for our mental wellbeing really is!

To take care of my inner child, its important with play. I like to dance, and create (drawing, building etc.).

I also practice yoga, cold showers and meditation. This combines with the therapeutic effects of certain (magic)mushrooms helps me manage my Childhood PTSD symptoms. I also do talk therapy – to have someone who can reflect my thoughts and feelings back to me (sometimes in a better or more accurate way).

I found a system that works for me (through a lot of trial and error), and I’m confident in that what I do for myself, is the right thing – no matter what’s the law or societal norms.

    • Thank you so much for checking out my blog! I haven’t written on here in a long while, but am just finishing a doctorate in psychology and will come back to writing for pleasure this year. So it feels especially timely to have a comment now!
Thank you for sharing how you look after yourself. I love the diversity in what you do… Sounds like you are looking after your body, mind and soul. I like what you say about self-care not just being what you do, but also about boundaries around what you consume and the people you allow into your life. I am celebrating you for walking the path of healing and finding what works for you 🙂
